Frequently Asked Questions

  • Each session is 55 minutes long. There is no one-size-fits-all schedule—your therapy is tailored to your unique needs, circumstances, and goals. New clients typically begin with weekly sessions for the first 3-4 visits, focusing on building a strong therapeutic relationship, assessing needs, and setting goals together. As we establish momentum and you feel more comfortable, we often transition to meeting every other week.

  • My private pay rate for a 55-minute individual therapy session is $130. I am an in-network provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna, and an out-of-network provider for all other insurance plans. If you have out-of-network benefits and wish to work with me, I would be happy to provide a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Please note that out-of-network benefits vary by plan, and you may have a higher deductible and receive lower reimbursement, depending on your insurance coverage.

  • Using insurance for service. Insurance can help reduce the cost of therapy by covering a portion of the fees and contributing to your annual deductible, which in turn lowers your overall healthcare expenses. Please note the following important considerations:

    1. Using insurance requires that I provide a clinical mental health diagnosis and document our sessions in a more rigid manner to demonstrate medical necessity.

    2. Your personal information will be shared with third parties as part of the reimbursement process.

    3. Insurance does not cover therapy focused solely on personal growth or relationship concerns.

These requirements also apply if you choose to see me as an out-of-network provider and request a Superbill for reimbursement.

Receiving therapy as a private pay client. As a private pay client, your therapy payments do not count toward your insurance deductible, but you enjoy greater privacy, flexibility, and control, with no need for a formal diagnosis or sharing personal information with insurance companies. This freedom allows you to focus on any area of your life—such as personal growth, relationships, or specific challenges—without limitations on session frequency, duration, or therapeutic approach, resulting in a highly individualized experience tailored to your unique needs and goals.

  • I welcome any clients who want to use their insurance benefits. Here are some questions you might want to ask your insurance provider before starting therapy:

    • Is outpatient mental health therapy covered under my plan?

    • What is my deductible for mental health services, and how much of it have I met this year?

    • What is my copay or coinsurance per session?

    • Are there limits on the number of therapy sessions covered per year?

    • What is the process for submitting claims or receiving reimbursement if I see an out-of-network provider?

    • How much will I be reimbursed for each session with an out-of-network therapist?

    • Will my insurance cover telehealth or online therapy sessions?

  • I offer sessions both in my Greenville office and online to clients throughout South Carolina. Many clients in Greenville who live a busy lifestyle or travel regularly within the state also choose online appointments for added convenience. All online sessions are conducted using a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform.

  • I would describe my interpersonal style as warm, accepting, and open, balanced with curiosity and directness. My goal is to create an authentic, supportive environment where you feel truly heard and truly safe to explore what you can do to move forward. Honest feedback from clients - even if it’s negative - is always welcome and viewed as an indication of a positive therapeutic relationship.

  • As a holistic therapist, I utilize a biopsychosocial-spiritual framework, which recognizes that your mental health is shaped by the complex interplay of physical, emotional, social, and spiritual factors. I employ techniques from evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Mindfulness, and Interpersonal Therapy in therapy to best meet your individual needs.

I take an active stance in therapy, and enjoy asking questions that invite reflection and help you uncover your own insights, empowering you to make informed choices and find solutions that feel genuine and meaningful for you.

  • In your first therapy session, you can expect a welcoming and empathetic environment where the primary focus is on building rapport and establishing a sense of safety and trust with me. We will discuss your current concerns, mental health history, family background, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. This session is also a chance for you to determine if I am a good fit for you based on our interactions, as a strong therapeutic relationship is key to successful outcomes. It’s normal to feel nervous or unsure at first, but I am here to support you at your own pace, ensuring you feel heard, respected, and empowered as you start your journey toward greater well-being.

  • I would call myself a Christian therapist rather than a Biblical counselor. Biblical counseling relies almost exclusively on Scripture as the primary resource for understanding and addressing life’s challenges, focusing on spiritual growth, repentance, and direct application of biblical principles to problems. In contrast, Christian counseling integrates faith with evidence-based psychological practices, drawing not only from the Bible but also from modern therapeutic methods to address a broader range of emotional, relational, and mental health concerns. As a Christian therapist, I embrace this integrative approach, honoring both the wisdom of Scripture and the benefits of proven psychological techniques to provide holistic, compassionate care tailored to each client’s unique needs.

  • You are encouraged to share any concerns or discomfort you experience—whether it is about the process, our sessions, or anything else—so we can address them together and make adjustments to better support you. You are never obligated to continue therapy if it no longer feels helpful, and you are free to pause or end your sessions at any time. I won’t feel offended! I am here to support you in making the decision that serves you best. If you would like, I am also happy to help connect you with other resources or providers who may be a better fit for your needs. Remember, therapy is about you and your needs, and you never have to worry about whether to share any therapy-related concerns with me.
